The
leader of each Care Group is akin to a spiritual parent who disciples
his members in a safe and nurturing environment.
The
Apostle Paul spoke of his conviction and commitment to the Church
in Thessalonica as a spiritual parent:
“You
know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators
of us and of the Lord to all believers in Macedonia and Achaia.”
(1 Thessalonians 1:5b-7)
“For
you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his
own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives
worthy of God, who calls you into His kingdom and glory.”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11)
“You
know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord
Jesus. It is God’s will that you should be holy; that each
of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy
and honourable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do
not know God and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother
or take advantage of him. For God did not call us to be impure but
to live a holy life.” (1 Thessalonians 4:2-7)
Spiritual
parenting is essentially borne out of a deep concern and compassion
for God’s people.
