“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:19)
When Jesus called His disciples to follow Him, He was by extension, also calling every one of us to do the same: Follow Him.
Following Jesus often takes us to places that we have never dreamt of before. To some, it results in a change of vocation, place of work or take one to a faraway country. Indeed, we may be called to “fish for people”, just as the early disciples were called to do so. Following Jesus may also mean changing our attitudes and perspectives on the things around us and on life.
What is for certain, is that “Following Jesus” in its many forms and ways, will always require action on our part instead of passivity. We do not fold our arms and remain where we are at, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually speaking. We choose to move where God has called us to move towards. We should be under no illusion that following Jesus takes no effort, no commitment and no action. Following Jesus requires faithfulness through every season of life and every setback or success that we experience.
It is with this in mind, that I will like to challenge you in your faith journey today. What are the key areas in your life today, that requires a major movement, in response to God’s call? Is it a time for you to put down your “nets” to follow Jesus? Perhaps, to turn aside to someone in need, just like the Good Samaritan did? Is He calling for you to change the way You look at someone, to offer forgiveness instead of judgment? Whatever it is, as disciples of Jesus Christ, we must not stand still and remain impassive when God calls. We need to follow Him. So follow Him today. Do not allow your faith to remain nothing more than a convenient ideology. Avoid getting stuck in a rut! Follow Him!
