Rev Khoo Kay Huat’s message to BMC:
“Dear friends and spiritual family, thank you.
7 years is the longest time I’ve had in any one local church as a pastor.
As a first-time PIC, thank you for letting a (then) 33-year-old take on this leadership position and how open you were.
The relationships made here will not end because of my move. We will see a lot less of each other – I think this is one of the hardest parts for me to take. Rachel, James and I will have a lot of adapting to do.
I will never forget celebrating our 70th anniversary in 2016 – it was sandwiched between 2 important moments:
1) The Friday before our 70th anniversary dinner, I opened a letter from the government, telling us of the offer to purchase our leasehold land and the option to turn it freehold. This had never been done before in Singapore history, and I got to be a witness, together with all of you as a spiritual family, to this miracle.
2) On a personal level, the day after the actual 70th birthday of BMC, James was born – another miracle for me.
What a journey that Jesus has brought us on together: going through our renovation, fundraising, reworking the way we did church (communications, looking at our values, our mission and vision), our 40-day fast, missions work, outreach and ministry, sharing of life together, the moving of the Spirit in BMC, COVID-19 and this 9 months in keeping church as church – so many things that we did together as God’s people.
And it most certainly won’t end when the next PIC comes, or the one after that. That should be part and parcel of the church that wants to move. We do not want to be a church of past memorials but of Holy Spirit movement.
And so, from the bottom of my heart, may God bless you richly with His favour, as you ready yourselves for a new season.
I love you, and I wish you the very best in the endeavors and dreams that God has for you.
Don’t give up, don’t lose hope, don’t stagnate, don’t settle for less.
There is one last time that I will be preaching as your PIC – on Friday at our Watchnight Service. So, I will see you then. But if not, may the Lord watch between you and me, even as we are absent one from the other.
Thank you.”
