“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:2-5)
There is no question that the COVID-19 crisis has put our country on its heels. There is not a single person I know that has not been affected by this in some way. The question posed to us now, is how do we respond, especially since none of us have experienced anything like this before. There is no handbook on navigating a worldwide pandemic as a follower of Jesus. Yet, even amid these uncertain times, we can find a fountain of wisdom in the presence of God.
We often think of the presence of God as a source of love, comfort, and encouragement. But not only is He a loving Father, He is the wise and intelligent one. He is not only generous with His grace and mercy, but with His wisdom and direction as well. I wonder how often we miss out on His incredible guidance simply because we forget to ask for it.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
God desires to speak to us, to guide us and to give us the wisdom we need from the words of Scripture. He desires to lead us through this time, and He has provided all we will ever need to face these difficulties. All that’s left is for us is to trust Him, to keep our hearts open to Him, and to follow Him obediently in response to His faithfulness and love.
Where do you need God’s wisdom today? Do you need wisdom in how to guide your family through this time? Do you need wisdom in how to handle your finances amid a loss of income? Do you need wisdom in how to deal with the spiritual and emotional toll you are feeling right now? Whatever it is, let us boldly ask God for His wisdom, and trust that He will generously give it.
May the wisdom of God fill you and lead you in these uncertain days.
