Pastoral Letter: 25 March 2020

Dear BMC members & friends,

We are living in extraordinary times, in truly extraordinary circumstances.

Countries and cities around us are in various degrees of lockdown. As such, the way we live, study, play, work and interact has been greatly impacted. As of yesterday, Singapore has taken on further precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, limiting group sizes to no more than 10 persons.

Meeting One Another

This means our prayer meetings will have to be replaced by synchronised prayers apart from one another. Care groups and Bible studies will have to work within these numbers. Committee meetings and all fellowships will have to take on the same approach. The other alternative is that we ‘meet’ online.

Despite the physical separation, we want to echo the words that the apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian Church: “For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.” (Colossians 2:5)

Keeping Close To God

I hope that you carry on in your personal faith journey with the Lord – reading His word, praying, doing the corporate book study, worshipping together via our online services and ‘meeting’ one another through technology.

While we adapt to these new changes and think out of the box, one thing for sure is that the Bible is just as relevant today as it was centuries ago.

We also know the Lord remains sovereign over all matters for we have an eternal Saviour who governs over the affairs of the world who watches, provides and cares for us till eternity.

Being The Light For Him

So whenever you can, worship the Lord at home, at your workplace, in your heart or in your secret place. Thank Him for who He is, the faithful One who will see us through such a challenging time.

Remember, in big and small ways, we can be a channel of blessing to someone, be it a prayer or a listening ear.

May we be His beacon of light and a ray of hope for others, for we have a powerful and extraordinary God who will shine through in these extraordinary times.

Blessings,
Kay Huat

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
