One of the things we can do as Christians in this time of economic and social distress is to help people find their true identity in in Christ. The second thing we can do is to help people find healing, especially amid social disruptions.
Friend, do not fear. However the world mistreats you and misuses you, however uncertain the future is, whatever people think of you, however people undervalue you, YOU ARE PRECIOUS TO GOD. He will not let you go. He will not think of you as unworthy or unneeded.
Has not God been faithful to us since the time we were birthed as a nation? Has not His mercy and grace been upon us to prosper us to what we have become today? Has He not in His steadfast love given our early and current leaders wisdom and foresight to lead us and will He not continue to do so as we humble ourselves and pray for our national leaders and for Singapore?
I hope that we will remember to apply Godly wisdom in this season. As we recognize the nature of this fallen world and that the days are evil, we will be careful and wise with all of life.
My prayer is that we continue in this spirit of servanthood even after the crisis is long over, and the Methodist legacy to our country is one of standing together with our neighbours as we continue to build a community that glorifies God.
Much can be accomplished in and after praying. The privilege of praying, of listening to Abba Father to align ourselves to His will, should be our first response (not as a last resort) and never perfunctory.
